A distribution box connects the main power supply to multiple circuits using main and branch breakers, neutral bars, and earth bars, ensuring safe and organized electricity distribution.

Main Components

  • Main Breaker (Main MCB or Main Switch): Controls the entire power supply to the distribution box and is typically rated for the maximum current of the installation .
  • Branch Circuit Breakers (MCBs): Protect individual circuits from overloads or short circuits. Single-pole MCBs are used for standard loads, while double-pole MCBs are used for higher or special loads .
  • RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker): Provides protection against earth faults and leakage currents .

  • Earth Bar: Connects all earth wires from circuits and the metallic body of the box to the grounding system .

  2. Main to RCCB: Connect the output of the main breaker to the input of the RCCB if used .
  3. Branch Breakers:
    • For single-pole MCBs, connect the phase wire from the RCCB output to the MCB input. Connect the neutral wire from the RCCB output to the neutral bar .
    • For double-pole MCBs, connect both phase and neutral wires from the RCCB output to the MCB input .
  4. Load Connections:
    • Single-pole MCB: Connect the phase terminal of the load to the MCB output and neutral to the neutral bar .
    • Double-pole MCB: Connect both phase and neutral terminals of the load to the MCB output .
  5. Earthing: Connect all earth wires from the supply, loads, and metallic body of the distribution box to the earth bar, which is linked to the grounding system .
