Secure During Transport and Unloading: Reels should be secured with wheel chocks or chains during transport to prevent shifting. When unloading from a flatbed or partially enclosed truck, use hoisting chains or wire ropes with a center hole bar and spreader beam to lift the reel safely . Avoid dropping reels from vehicles, as this can cause permanent fiber damage . 4. Inspect Reels Before Unloading: Check for any visible damage to the drum, flanges, or cable ends before unloading. Replace damaged sealing caps immediately to prevent contamination or cable sheath damage . Record labeling information for traceability in case of later issues . 5. Space and Handling Precautions: Keep sufficient space between drums to prevent collisions. Do not release the forks or lifting equipment until the drum is fully stationary. Avoid rolling reels over long distances or against the indicated roll direction, as this can loosen the cable and create tension inconsistencies . 6. Storage Considerations Post-Unloading: Store reels in a flat, solid surface indoors, away from moisture and UV exposure. Indoor cables should be kept in covered areas with relative humidity below 60%. Outdoor cables, while weather-resistant, should also be stored indoors when possible to prevent drum damage . Reels delivered horizontally should be immediately placed upright to maintain cable integrity . Following these procedures ensures that optical cables remain undamaged, maintain their performance, and are ready for safe installation. Proper unloading reduces the risk of hidden fiber damage, which can otherwise lead to costly repairs or replacement during installation .
