Connect the cable to the distribution box

To connect a cable into a distribution box, first ensure power is off, then connect the phase, neutral, and earth wires to their respective terminals, secure all connections, and verify with a multimeter.

Safety First

Before starting, cut off the main power supply and use an electrical tester to confirm no voltage is present. Wear insulating gloves, safety glasses, and slip-resistant shoes to prevent electric shock or injury. Ensure the installation area is dry and free of obstructions .

Mounting the Distribution Box

  1. Mark the installation position on the wall or surface.
  2. Drill holes and insert expansion bolts.
  3. Place the box, align it with the bolts, and tighten screws to secure it.
  4. Ensure the box is level and stable; for outdoor installations, use a waterproof box and add a rain cover .

Preparing the Cables

  1. Strip the insulation from the wires to the required length, leaving enough exposed conductor for a secure connection.
  2. Identify the wires: phase (live), neutral, and earth.
  3. Arrange wires neatly to avoid tangling and allow heat dissipation .

Connecting the Wires

  1. Input Power Connection: Connect the incoming live (phase) wire to the main terminal or main MCB, the neutral wire to the neutral link, and the earth wire to the earth terminal .
  2. Circuit Breakers: Insert the MCBs or RCCBs into their slots. Connect each circuit wire to its corresponding breaker.
  3. Output Loads: Connect the phase wire from the breaker output to the load, neutral to the neutral link, and earth to the earth terminal. For double-pole MCBs, connect both phase and neutral from the output of the RCCB to the input of the load MCB .
  4. Secure Connections: Tighten screws or crimp terminals to ensure good conductivity and avoid loose connections .

Final Checks

  1. Arrange all wires neatly and secure with zip ties.
  2. Perform an insulation resistance test to ensure no short circuits.
  3. Use a multimeter to verify that all circuits are correctly connected and functioning.
  4. Confirm that breakers and fuses match the load ratings . Following these steps ensures a safe, efficient, and compliant connection of cables into a distribution box, minimizing the risk of electrical faults or hazards.
