Laser Diode Selector
The laser diode selector allows you to specify the wavelength, power and package and download datasheets for a wide range of high
1. Wavelength and Modulation Type For 800G optical links, laser diodes typically operate in the C-band (1530–1565 nm) or L-band (1565–1625 nm) for single-mode fiber, supporting PAM4 or NRZ modulation at high baud rates. Wavelength stability is critical to minimize dispersion and crosstalk in dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) systems . 2. Output Power and Efficiency High-speed 800G links require sufficient optical power to maintain signal integrity over the intended fiber distance. Typical output powers range from 10 mW to 50 mW per channel, depending on link length and fiber type. Efficiency is important to reduce heat generation and power consumption in data center environments . 3. Package Type and Integration Laser diodes come in TO-can, butterfly, or fiber-coupled modules. For data centers, fiber-coupled butterfly packages are preferred for integration into transceivers, providing stable alignment and reduced insertion loss. Consider co-packaged optics (CPO) if integrating directly with switch ASICs . 4. Thermal Management High-speed operation generates heat, which can affect wavelength stability and reliability. Look for diodes with integrated thermoelectric coolers (TECs) or compatible heat sinks. Proper thermal design ensures consistent performance and extends device lifetime . 5. Reliability and Lifetime Data center laser diodes must meet high MTBF (mean time between failures) standards, often exceeding 100,000 hours, and comply with Telcordia GR-468 or equivalent reliability standards. This ensures minimal downtime and maintenance in large-scale deployments . 6. Driver Compatibility Ensure the laser diode is compatible with high-speed driver ICs capable of supporting 800G PAM4 signaling. Check bias current, modulation bandwidth, and voltage requirements to match the transceiver design .
