Transmission Distance: The maximum distance an optical module can transmit is limited by fiber loss (absorption, scattering, leakage) and dispersion (pulse broadening due to wavelength-dependent speed). Loss is usually the dominant factor, while dispersion can often be neglected for short distances . 5. Interface Rate: The maximum electrical signal rate the module can carry without errors, e.g., 1.25 Gbps, 10.3125 Gbps, or 41.25 Gbps, affects both sensitivity and power requirements .
