Connecting the optical conversion module to the router

To connect a fiber optic module or cable to your router, insert the optical module into the router's port, connect the fiber cable correctly, and link the ONT to the router via Ethernet.

Required Equipment

• Optical Network Terminal (ONT): Converts optical signals to electrical signals compatible with your router. Usually provided by your ISP .
• Fiber optic cable: Typically single-mode with SC/APC or SC/UPC connectors .
• Router: Ensure it supports fiber input, either via SFP port or WAN port labeled for fiber/ONT .
• Ethernet cable: To connect the ONT to the router's WAN port .

Step 1: Install the Optical Module

1. Remove the dust plug from the optical module and the router's optical port .
2. Gently insert the optical module into the router's optical interface until it clicks. If it doesn't fit, rotate 180 degrees and try again .
3. Keep the dust plug from the fiber cable for later protection.

Step 2: Connect the Fiber Optic Cable

1. Remove dust caps from both ends of the fiber cable .
2. Connect one end to the optical module and the other to the wall outlet or remote device, ensuring receive and transmit ends match .
3. Label the fibers temporarily to avoid confusion, then replace with formal labels after connection .

Step 3: Link the ONT to the Router

1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the ONT's LAN port to the router's WAN port .
2. Place the ONT and router near power outlets in a dry, ventilated area, ideally with surge protection .
3. Power on the ONT first and wait for it to register with the service provider's network (status lights should stabilize, typically solid green for power), .
4. Power on the router and check indicator lights to confirm a successful connection .

Step 4: Verify and Test

• Ensure all connectors are properly aligned and locked .
• Test the connection using network tools or the router's status page to confirm signal strength and performance .
