  4. Set the correct index of refraction for the fiber type in the OTDR to ensure accurate distance and loss measurements .
  5. Use the OTDR's two-point loss tool to measure splice and connector loss, and record reflectance values .
  6. Save all traces for documentation and verification against standards .
